Tribeca
Tribeca, New York, 2023
This 2800 sf project is a residential renovation in a historical loft building in one of the most sought-after areas of Manhattan. The layout defines a clear separation of day/night areas, through circulation paths and different ceiling heights.
The daytime space—living room/family room, kitchen and dining—open towards beautiful northern views of Midtown Manhattan, and thanks to the tall, vaulted ceilings are bathed in plenty of natural daylight. The generosity of the space allows for the relationship between the finish materials to be perceived vertically and horizontally. Baked Oak Hardwood flooring and walnut cabinetry alternate with stone surfaces, such as Navona Travertine cladding and dining table, Absolut Black fireplace surround, specialty textured plaster on walls and Statuary Carrara marble at the kitchen bringing the space to life through natural materials.
The nighttime areas echo the same material treatment, by using different types of wood and stone finishes throughout the spaces including in the decorative fixtures such as Alabaster bedside pendant lights. All bedroom are accessible through an L-shape corridor that doubles as a gallery for the clients’ extensive collection of important paintings, photographs and prints.
All these design solutions emphasize the raw quality of the space and create an elegant home that is immune from fads or passing trends, rooted in functionality and complex simplicity.
