SoHo Broadway Loft
SoHo, New York, 2014
This project is located in the Flatiron Historical District in Soho, New York. The area is known for slim lots, buildings that share party walls, articulated facades, and varied building heights. The historical nature of the facades makes this one of the more interesting neighborhoods in lower Manhattan. This particular building has single-floor apartments and direct elevator access to each floor and apartment, thus creating the need for privacy and protection from unwanted visitors. The Loft is on a lower floor of the building and has windows only along the east elevation. As this elevation was the orienting factor of the “public” areas of the apartment - Living room, kitchen, and dining all opened into the same space. The “night-time” spaces are the master bedroom and bath, office, and wardrobes are all organized towards the rear of the apartment which becomes the private zone. This project was done at a very low cost and with high efficiency of materials and construction.
